Everyone wants to be organized, but sometimes life gets in the way. Eye emergencies don’t typically happen on a schedule.
When something unexpected happens, you can trust Opulent Eyes Optometry to take care of you quickly and effectively. Call us when you encounter an eye care emergency. We’ll help you determine your next steps and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
First of all, don’t rub your eyes! It’s tempting, but rubbing your eyes could move the embedded object around and damage your cornea. Try flushing your eye out with clean, cool water. If that doesn’t shift the object, you can try gently dabbing the object with a clean cotton swab. If the object doesn’t come away with the swab, you’ll need to seek medical attention because the object is likely embedded rather than free-floating.
Even common chemicals like cleaning products can seriously damage your eyes. If any sort of chemical makes contact with your eye, you need to flush it out immediately with cool, clean water for at least 15 minutes. Even if your eye doesn’t hurt, it’s crucial that you keep flushing the eye for the full 15 minutes, otherwise, the chemicals could severely damage your eye tissue.
Once you’ve finished flushing your eye, seek medical attention right away.
