Your eyes need hydration to work properly. Without the right volume or the right quality of tears, your eyes just can’t function as well as they should. When your eyes are constantly deprived of the moisture they need, it’s called dry eye or dry eye disease.
Dry eye typically comes down to one of two issues:
It’s not enough to know you’re suffering from dry eye; finding the right treatment hinges on diagnosing the cause of your dry eye symptoms.
Opulent Eyes Optometry uses highly advanced diagnostic tools, including a corneal analyzer to take close-up pictures and videos of your eyes and show us how quickly your tears evaporate.

Both your upper and lower eyelids have drainage ducts to drain your tears so they don’t run down your cheeks. Punctal plugs are tiny devices usually made of collagen or silicone that are inserted into the drainage duct. Once the duct is plugged, your natural tears will spend more time on the surface of the eye, relieving the symptoms of evaporative dry eye disease.
Meibum is an oil created by the meibomian glands in the eyelids that keeps the tears from evaporating. LipiFlow is designed to stimulate your eyelids’ meibum production. This in-office treatment uses precise application of warmth to soften meibum, and gentle pressure to work any blockages out of the meibomian glands. As a result, you’ll get to enjoy higher-quality tears.
Medicated eye drops like Restasis are designed to provide immediate relief for dry eye symptoms, while also stimulating your tear glands to produce more natural tears. Unlike artificial tears, medicated eye drops are not available over the counter, and have to be prescribed by your eye doctor.
